Fairy Cave, Stone County, Missouri (in the Mountainous Part of the Ozarks) - This cave was explored in 1896 and named by Truman S. Powell, better known as the Shepherd of the Hills.  It is now owned and operated by his son, Waldo Powell.  This beautiful cave is a two-hour drive by auto from Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Springfield, Missouri, and Joplin, Missouri.  It is located on Highway No. 43 five miles south of Reeds Springs, Missouri.  Concrete stairways, electric lights, absence of mud, and no crawling.  Entertaining guides add to the pleasure of the trip. - description from the 1930's
