THE SEA FAIRIES

The little wild Sea Fairies
On flying fishes ride
Across the snowy mountains
And valleys of the tide;
They chase the frothy bubbles,
And Tally-ho they call;
And I would follow after,
If I were fairy-small.

They sleep in pinky sea-shells
That sing them hushabye,
And rock among the sea-grass
For fear the Babies cry.
A little silver cradle
Along the shore I found
With not a Fairy in it,
But just a lonely sound.

They flit along the moon-path
And circle hand-in-hand;
I’ve traced their fairy footprints,
So tiny, on the sand;
No little bird or blue crab
Could ever step so light,
But only dancing Fairies
Along the beach at night.
